Teachers consistently rank as one of the highest regarded professionals in America. Every year, teachers are ranked right up there with nurses and firefighters. And yet, the radical right, in the name of “reform,” has been largely successful in creating a boogeyman of bad, lazy teachers protected by the union. So, while most families trust their teacher, there exists a disconnect in their minds between their personal experiences and the image of a teacher-created by the right and perpetuated by the media. Some posts in the campaign featured members being honored or giving back so families could make the connection between their teachers and the profession as a whole. Another used infographics featuring statistics illustrating how much teachers gave and students gained.
